I’ve been needing to make some coasters for a quite a while, and while cutting some simple squares would be really easy.. it’s not very interesting.  I wanted something a little interesting in shape, which led me to a hexagon, but how in the world do you cut a hexagon? (trying not to use a CNC every time.)

It turns out that it’s not very hard at all to cut them on a table saw, as long as you can use a ruler and compass!  Since hexagons can fit together nicely, I figured adding some magnets would turn some basic coasters into a something you could play with on the table, almost like a puzzle.

Here’s how I did it!
