In this episode of Crash Test, I got the chance to test out the Ultimaker 2 Extended. It’s the largest printer in the Ultimaker 2 family and boasts a really large print area, 223 x 223 x 305 mm to be exact.

The machine comes assemble, you just have to remove some packaging and snap in the post that holds the filament. The filament has an auto feeder to get it started, all run from the simple interface on the front of the machine.  It’s got a nice LCD screen and jog dial for managing the machine and the SD slot is on the front as well.

The machine is extremely well made, and performs BEAUTIFULLY right out of the box. The only complaint I have with it is that the on/off switch is pretty small, and located on the back of the machine, so it’s tough to find without being able to see it.  I understand that this probably helps it not get turned off accidentally, but it’s just something I noticed.

Check out the video for more details, but in summation, if you’re looking for a great, ready out of the box printer.. you should DEFINITELY check out the Ultimaker 2.
