As you probably know, I’m a HUGE fan of Make Magazine (I have issue 1, if that gives you a clue) and so it’s an honor to be asked to create some content for them. They wanted a project that combined different mediums and contained a couple of small skills that could be pulled out as quick tip videos. The idea for this table came out of conversations about combining skills and disciplines (and my love of Tron).
Something I really love about this table is where the top came from, although that’s not covered in the video. The slab, is a piece of maple sent to me by a friend, and amazing woodworker (also father to be) Matt Cremona. Matt is an EXTREMELY talented woodworker and content creator. If you don’t already subscribe to him, you should because you’ll learn a LOT.
The barnwood is a piece of oak that was given to me by my grandfather. He salvaged it from a barn in Kentucky, where I grew up. (It’s the same wood that I used on my king size bed.) I’m extremely proud to be able to make furniture out of materials given to me by my grandfather, because he’s someone that I love and respect SO, SO much. He’s always been someone I’ve looked up to because of his seemingly infinite knowledge of just about everything, and skill to match. He’s a painter, wood carver, RC model plane maker, dentist, and on and on.
This project is pretty special to me because it incorporates materials with stories, and was made for a company that I truly respect and enjoy.
I hope you enjoy it too!
