People ask me all of the time how to go about getting their first tools, and my answer is almost always “buy used”. Craiglist, yard sales, estates sales all give you the opportunity to buy something that probably works just fine, for very little money. I recently got the chance to visit the house of a woodworker before the estate sale and pick through the shop. There wasn’t much left, but I did pick up a Delta drill press and a Craftsman belt grinder (something I’ve been wanting for a while).
This video is intended to give you some ideas for bringing those used tools back from neglect. Used tools + elbow grease = good tools at a cheap price!
