In case you missed it, recently I made a custom license plate for my truck, and it was my first chance to mill aluminum on my X-Carve. While it did “work”, it took FOREVER… This was due to the fact that I didn’t have the correct type of endmills on hand and I was using the stock spindle.
Luckily, I’d purchased a Dewalt 611 trim router over a year ago, to upgrade my old ShapeOko 2, but never got around to it.
So after my license plate experience, I ordered a new carbide bit made for milling aluminum and the spindle mount for the Dewalt. Swapping these out was very simple and quick. Then I was ready for testing!
